New Delhi [India], October 21: Apple says it’s bringing Reachability—a handy one-handed feature—to the new iPhone Duo in a software update coming later this year. They’re making this news official just before the foldable iPhone drops on October 23, probably because people have been wondering how they’ll manage that wide, foldable screen with one hand.
What Apple actually confirmed
Julian Chokkattu from WIRED reports that Apple plans to add Reachability to the iPhone Duo sometime in 2026. The idea is simple: if you’ve got smaller hands, Reachability makes it way easier to get to the left and right edges of that big display with just a tap.
Other reviews back this up, mentioning that Apple isn’t stopping with Reachability—they’re planning new software features later this year, including Apple Pencil support. We still don’t know which update will bring these features or the exact release date—Apple hasn’t said.
Why Reachability matters for iPhone Duo
Reachability isn’t new for iPhones. On regular models, it lets you swipe down at the bottom of the screen, pulling everything lower so you can finish what you’re doing with one hand. Now that the Duo’s here with its foldable, wider form factor, people are going to hold and use it in all sorts of new ways. Apple has already tweaked iOS for the Duo, letting the phone shift content around as you fold, flip, or turn it. They’re also supporting split-screen multitasking on that bigger inner screen.
With these changes, using Reachability should make things a lot easier—no more awkward finger stretches to hit that far edge, especially when you’re using the Duo one-handed or it’s just sitting on your desk.
Duo launch details
Apple first showed off the iPhone Duo—its very first foldable iPhone—on September 9, 2026. They announced a bunch of new features for it: an inner-display FaceTime camera, Dual Capture in FaceTime, Duo FaceTime, and support for the Apple Pencil with USB-C (though Pencil support is coming later).
The Duo goes on sale October 23, 2026, shipping with iOS 27.1. Apple’s also nudged developers to get their apps ready for the phone’s new shapes and ways of handling.
Just keep in mind—Reachability won’t be there on day one. Same goes for Apple Pencil with USB-C support. Both are coming with future updates sometime in 2026.
What we still don’t know
Apple hasn’t explained exactly how Reachability will work on the Duo’s inside and outside displays. Maybe it’ll be different depending on how you’re holding the phone, but they’re not saying yet. They also haven’t told us which iOS update will include it.
For now, here’s what we know: Reachability is coming to the iPhone Duo later this year, just not at launch. We’ll get more info as Apple rolls out its post-launch updates.
